Austin Hardcore Camping and Primitive Wilderness Living

Have you ever wanted to live out in nature for days? Weeks? Months? Years? Are you into bushcraft, survivalism, or just being surrounded by nature? Do plastic tents and RV's irritate you? Ever wanted to build a shelter out of branches and twine? Distill your own water? Be the next Survivor(Wo)Man?

This group is for those who not only answered yes to one of those questions, but are willing to be proactive about making it a reality. We are going to set up a primative village in the wilds of the hill country (well as wild as the hill country gets). There is no cost, no social obligations, and this isn't a commune. You can treat your shelter as an occasional camping ground, a medium term vacation home, or as a permanent residence, it's your place. Your shelter is your shelter, your elbow grease is your elbow grease. We will pick a location close to Austin so you can hike or bike to a nearby parking spot and then drive to work, if you choose the long term residence option.

This is natural living, and this is partially primitive living. We've all fantasized about living in nature, so let's make it happen. And please, keep the unsightly technology to a minimum.

"This is a great idea. Something I have been thinking about these last few years in the interest of re-orienting ourselves and re-wilding nature. Glad to see the flexible approach and glad to meet people of similar mindset. "

"Hi, Ryan, I have done lots of camping with groups doing service projects in SP and NP around the country and spend a lot of time between projects camping off the beaten path. Is the area where you plan to develop the village on land you own?"

"I have camped in National Forests where I have not seen other people for days at a time. I have camped for 3 and 4 month stints, but have yet to camp using a natural shelter. I usually have a backpackers tent or have slept in the back of the truck."
